What is a dental implant
A dental implant is a biocompatible prosthetic component, essentially a titanium screw with a specially treated surface to facilitate osseointegration.
*osseointegration = the body's acceptance of the foreign object
It is designed to create an artificial root in the jawbone where natural teeth are missing.
The reconstruction consists of two segments: one intraosseous (the implant) and one supraosseous, called an abutment.
A crown, bridge, or denture is anchored onto the abutment.
This treatment is conservative compared to traditional bridge work, as dental implants eliminate the need to sacrifice adjacent teeth. A dental bridge requires at least two abutment teeth for anchoring, which unfortunately must be sacrificed. Restoring teeth with implants offers extraordinary aesthetic and functional benefits, with patients feeling no sense of an "artificial" replacement. Shortly after the procedure, the patient forgets that they ever lost a tooth in that spot.

Is an implant procedure painful?
The answer is no, it does not hurt because there are painkillers that stop any potential pain.
How long does it take to get an implant?
Once the implant is inserted into the bone, it is covered by the gum, and the patient feels nothing beyond the stitches. Moderate discomfort may occur after about 3 hours, once the anesthesia wears off.
This procedure takes about an hour, or potentially longer if multiple implants are being placed.
Next comes the healing period, known as osseointegration, which lasts between 3 and 6 months, after which the abutment is attached. From this point on, the final restoration with crowns, bridges, or dentures requires a few more appointments, spanning a few days.
It is important to remember that every patient is a unique case, which is why it is difficult to specify an exact timeframe for the completion of the implant process.
Why is it important to replace missing teeth?
Beyond the aesthetic benefits, replacing missing teeth restores your ability to chew and speak normally. Furthermore, if you neglect the gap left by missing teeth, your other teeth may shift to fill the empty space. A dental implant is not "just an implant." It is a chance to regain your lost health, structure, and aesthetics.
How will dental implants affect my life?

Types of restorations on implants
Dental crowns and fixed implant-supported bridges
When all teeth are lost or need to be replaced, a fixed implant-supported bridge is the best definitive solution. Before the advent of dental implants, there was no fixed solution for people who had lost all their teeth. Today, it is possible to place dental implants and attach a fixed bridge, providing a permanent, stable, and highly aesthetic solution.
A dental implant serves as a support for a ceramic crown, a full or partial ceramic bridge, or, in some cases, a denture. Dental implants can support one or more teeth. During your visit, your dentist will consult with you and review your dental X-rays, after which you will be referred to a colleague with expertise in oral implantology (the implantologist). They will analyze the condition of your bone and determine the requirements for the implant procedure, after which you will need to complete a set of medical tests before the surgery can begin.
Implant-supported dentures
In the past, a full denture was the only option when no teeth remained on the dental arch. Today, thanks to dental implants, we can create a fixed restoration (a full-arch implant bridge) that does not need to be removed periodically. We use implant-supported dentures to deliver spectacular results in a short amount of time. This solution is designed for patients who have lost all their teeth and have limited bone support. Using special anchoring systems (such as snaps, bars with clips, locators, or magnets), this type of denture provides high stability, comparable to that of a fixed bridge. The procedure itself is performed under local anesthesia and takes about an hour. Titanium dental implants with rounded abutments are surgically placed into the jaw, allowing the bone to heal around them. During the healing period, the denture is adapted to the 2-4 dental implants to ensure maximum functionality.
Unlike traditional dentures, implant-supported dentures do not rely solely on the gums, allowing for more efficient and proper chewing, high coherence, and vastly superior stability. In short, if you wear a full denture that causes you discomfort, puts you in awkward social situations, or makes eating difficult, you have the opportunity for a fully fixed restoration that can last a lifetime.
